Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship
The Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship was founded by Bob and Dee Leggett with support from Robert and Dee Leggett Foundation. The Foundation’s purchase of nearly 900 acres preserved an important viewshed of the Appalachian Trail
The Blue Ridge Center was founded as the program arm of the Leggett Foundation. Today it is an independent nonprofit organization that operates environmental educational programs and invites people and partners to study and steward the land.
The Leggett Foundation studied the land’s ecology and archeology educational field schools. It also developed a long-term conservation plan and put a permanent conservation easement on the land.
Today the Blue Ridge Center is open to the public as a place to hike, enjoy nature, and participate in environmental learning programs. The Blue Ridge Center also provides land and infrastructure for Mountain View Farm, which produces all-natural, sustainably grown produce, eggs and poultry.
The Blue Ridge Center also hosts the activities of many partners, including Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy, U.S. Trailriders, the American Conservation Film Festival, and Boys and Girl Scout troops.
